Modibodi Maternity + Breastfeeding Singlet Review

After my second birth, I was offered an opportunity to test the Modibodi maternity and breastfeeding singlet. Here’s my review of this innovative pregnancy and nursing top.

Modibodi’s maternity and breastfeeding singlet contains sewn-in reusable breast pads.

How cool is that?

You no longer need to worry about waking up covered in breast milk (if you’ve had a baby, I know you know).

As an expectant mother, finding comfortable and supportive clothing (that was long enough to wear the entire pregnancy) was challenging.

Then I gave birth and discovered nothing fit me anymore.

Throw in milk-soaked sheets each morning and you’ve got that typical messy postpartum experience that no one prepares you for.

After baby number two, I started sleeping in my Modibodi breastfeeding singlet - it was a game-changer!

Before this, I’d been sleeping in a crop top (because a bra was too uncomfortable), but both disposable and reusable pads would shift in the night resulting in me and my baby waking up in a patch of milk every morning.

Not ideal when you’re on your own with two kids under three and no time to have a shower. But that’s mum life for you!

If you’re expecting a baby or have just had one, I’m going to tell you how I get the most out of Modibodi’s pregnancy and breastfeeding top alongside an honest review of all its features.

Is it Comfortable?

One of the first things I noticed about the Modibodi Maternity Cami Top is its soft and stretchy fabric. It feels incredibly comfortable against the skin and provides a gentle and supportive fit.

The nursing top is made from bamboo viscose and the breast pads are a mixture of merino wool and polyester.

The fabric is breathable, allowing for proper ventilation and helping to regulate body temperature, which is crucial during pregnancy.

It can be worn on its own or layered under other clothing, making it suitable for various occasions and weather conditions.

Breastfeeding in the cami

The Modibodi maternity cami has a clip on each strap allowing the cup to drop down so you can breastfeed easily. This is accessible and convenient for both day and night.

When I wear this during the day, I put a t-shirt over the top of the cami so that I can breastfeed in public discreetly as this
is my preference. If the weather is warm and I’m with people I feel comfortable with, I wear the cami on its own as it looks like a normal black vest top.

How does Modibodi’s maternity cami fit?

The cami top is specifically designed for maternity wear, and it shows in the thoughtful details.

The adjustable shoulder straps and elasticized bust area provide a customizable fit, accommodating the changing shape and size of your body.

The stretchy material is ideal for growing bumps but also feels flattering once you’ve given birth and have lumps, bumps., and loose skin.

I also appreciate the longer length ensures that it stays in place and provides coverage for the growing belly.

Modibodi Cami Sizing Advice

The only part I found a bit tricky was not knowing what size to get as I went up a dress size after each birth.

I think the most important thing is to get the right cup size. The flexi sizing has been designed to accommodate changing breast sizes and comes in A-D or DD-GG.

I was a DD postpartum, so I selected the DD-GG and this was too big for me - especially when my supply regulated itself.

Modibodi recommends choosing your pre-pregnancy cup size and allowing room for 1-2 sizes above that. Before pregnancy, I was a C, so the A-D was more suitable for me.

How does it differ from cheaper nursing tops?

You may be wondering if the Modibodi nursing cami is worth investing in compared to cheaper tops on the market.

The built-in breast pads are the most innovative feature. I have a nursing top with breast support from Mothercare too which I like, but you can tell when I put breast pads in there. My other one is from H&M which doesn’t have support so I have to wear a bra with it if I want breast pads in.

This alone makes the Modibodi cami far more convenient and comfortable.

What also sets the Modibodi Maternity Cami Top apart from other maternity tops is its 3mm fabric contains built-in leak-proof and moisture-wicking technology. This is particularly useful during pregnancy when hormonal changes can lead to increased perspiration and leakage.

Not to forget the postpartum sweats that nobody tells you about. I have the good fortune of not being a sweaty person at all, but oh my did my sweat glands go into overdrive when breastfeeding.

There is also something luxuriously soft about bamboo viscose. My other nursing tops are made from cotton and while they are comfortable, they are nowhere near as soft as this material.

You’ve got to get your comfort in where you can during pregnancy and postpartum!

While the Modibodi Maternity Cami Top is undoubtedly a fantastic investment, it's worth mentioning that it comes with a higher price tag compared to some other maternity tops on the market. However, considering its comfort, functionality, and confidence it provides. I believe it's well worth the investment.

At the time of writing, the cami is on sale (£10 off).

Washing and drying

In terms of washing and care, the Modibodi Maternity Cami Top is pretty straightforward, but you do have to follow washing guidelines.

They advise rinsing out the milk in the sink and then doing a cold wash (no more than 30). Make sure you don’t use any fabric softener.

I have found it easiest to pop the cami in a mesh wash bag and then do a handwash cycle with some detergent as soon as I get up and hang out it out as soon as possible so it can be dry before the night.

It is a little slow drying so if you want to wear it during the daytime too, it’s best to have two on the go.

I also use a dehumidifier which speeds up the drying times of clothes in winter (I have had great success with this drying my cloth nappies too).

Obviously, it’s much easier to do in summer, but I’m managing okay in winter as long as I stay organised.

Conclusion

The Modibodi maternity + breastfeeding singlet has proven to be an excellent addition to my maternity wardrobe.

Its comfort, adjustable fit, leak-proof technology, and versatile design make it a reliable and essential piece of clothing for expectant mothers.

If you’re experiencing colostrum leaks during pregnancy or plan on breastfeeding after birth, I’d highly recommend giving the Modibodi breastfeeding top a try.
