Cloth Nappy Review: Little Lamb Pocket Nappy

Little Lambs are one of my favourite cloth nappy brands.
Not only are they slim fitting and absorbent enough for my heavy wetter, they still fit my almost 3-year-old.
Choosing a reusable nappy brand is a big decision. In this review, I’m going to share everything you need to know about the Little Lamb one-size pocket v2, along with the pros and cons so you can see if it’s the right nappy for you.

1. About Little Lamb
Little Lamb is a UK company founded by a mum and dad that used cloth on their 6 babies. They manufacture their nappies in a family-owned factory in Turkey.
All nappies are certified Oexo-Tex which tests for thousands of harmful chemicals.
2. What is a pocket nappy?
A reusable nappy consists of 2 parts - an absorbent core (the insert) and a waterproof cover. Different types of cloth nappies attach these two parts in different ways.
With a pocket nappy, the waterproof cover is fleece lined with a “pocket” at the back. The nappy inserts slide inside the pocket (see picture above) and then it’s ready to go.
Because the inserts come out during washing, the nappy dries much faster than other styles.
3. How much do they cost?
Little Lambs pocket nappies cost £13.90 at the time of writing, however, you can save money by choosing bundle deals at The Nappy Gurus.

Obviously, this is a lot up front, but considering these nappies last until potty training (mine still fits well at almost 3)

4. What is Little Lamb's one-sized pocket nappy made from?
The outside of the Little Lamb one-sized pocket nappy is PUL made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. The PUL has a bit of stretch which I like. It helps give more freedom of movement and is easier to get on.
The inside of the cover, which touches your baby’s skin, is made from a soft micro-fleece that is also made from recycled materials. This is incredibly soft, even after years of washing.
Because there is a built-in fleece layer, you don’t need to use a separate fleece liner, but some people choose to use disposable paper liners to make removing poo easier.
This cloth nappy comes with 2 boosters (or inserts) which are made from 90% bamboo viscose and 10% microfibre (which helps them absorb urine faster). They are much slimmer than the bamboo inserts from other brands which means it looks very slim on.
5. Absorbency
Most websites will tell you that Little Lamb’s boosters have good absorbency, and while this may be true for some babies, I had a heavy wetter.
The good thing about the “pocket” on the Little Lambs nappy is that it is spacious. This makes it very easy to add extra boosters.
To last longer than 2 hours, I found I needed to include a third Little Lambs booster. I tried the bamboo and the hemp ones and they both worked great. Using a third booster meant I never had a leak with this nappy.
The other thing I liked, was the thin material of the boosters meant that even with three, the cloth nappy still looked slimmer fitting than other pocket nappies (obviously it is still bulkier than a disposable though).

6. Poppers/snaps
Little Lamb pocket nappies only have popper (or snap) fastening. These are great quality and I haven’t had any issues or quality problems.
There are 3 poppers on either side to help you get an accurate fit around the waist. These can also overlap if your baby is slim (as shown on the ladybird pattern above).
Below that, there are three rows and three columns of poppers that can be used to make the nappy smaller or bigger. These might look confusing if you’re new to reusable nappies. but you only need to adjust these as your baby grows.
In the image above, the cream ladybird pattern nappy is done up on the tightest setting for smaller babies. The brown fox pattern nappy is on the largest setting for older/larger babies.
7. Sizing
Little Lamb says their pocket nappies fit approximately 4 to 16kg (which is about 10 to 35lb). Like all other one-sized nappies, this product isn’t designed for newborn babies.
Usually, a one-sized nappy will fit once they are a few months old, depending on the weight and size of the child.
Until then, you can buy newborn nappies (most people opt for muslin or terry nappies to reduce costs), or use disposables until you feel ready to start.
“Eco disposables” are available for parents concerned about hazardous chemicals, but they are more expensive and still contribute to the waste issue.
My daughter is almost three and there is plenty of room left in her Little Lamb pocket nappies so they have lasted us a long time!
8. Review Conclusion
Overall, I really like the Little Lamb’s pocket nappy. I’d prefer it if they came with three boosters, but as it is one of the cheaper ethical pocket nappies available (I’m not including the mass-produced nappies from China), it’s not too much of a stretch to buy extra for most people. To reduce costs, you could use any boosters you already have.
It’s also great that Little Lamb pocket nappies last until your child is potty trained. I have a lot of “all-in-one” styles for convenience, but I found my daughter grew out of the more absorbent ones by the time she was 2. The extra stretch in the Little Lamb PUL means you don’t have to worry about getting extra nappies for an older toddler.
An added bonus is the prints are beautiful. I love the metallic tone of the plain prints, and the nature and wildlife patterns are adorable.
