9 Brands That Sell Natural, Organic Muslin Swaddle Blankets

Where to buy beautiful natural baby muslin swaddles in the uk #ethical #sustainable #organic

This post has been updated in 2022 to remove organic muslins that no longer exist and now recommends ethical businesses in the USA and Australia, as well as the UK.

Is there anything you can’t do with a muslin?

Babies are messy little creatures. I think you’ll agree that muslin squares are a newborn baby essential, but I also found a large muslin swaddle useful in so many ways.

I prefer to support brands that care about their employees and work hard to reduce their environmental impact. All the companies I have listed have used natural materials without any toxic dyes and are certified organic.

Different uses for large muslins

My first child was born in summer and I quickly realised he hated being swaddled. My son didn’t enjoy being wrapped up tight in colder weather either so I ended up using my large muslin for a variety of purposes.

Because it was high-quality sustainable material, it didn’t shrink, go wrinkly, or need ironing after being washed (who has time for that) whereas a lot of my cheap squares did.

A simple muslin is all any parent needs, but there is something about a squishy newborn that makes you want soft fabric and adorable patterns.

My friend gave me this beautiful swaddle for my son (first picture below) and here it is again being used as a sheet for my second baby who was born in a heatwave (picture two).

As you can see, it’s highly adaptable, my large muslin swaddle was used for the following:

  • a breastfeeding cover before I felt confident feeding in public

  • a thin blanket in warmer weather

  • tummy time

  • protecting the sofa or bed from milky dribbles

  • a great backdrop for cute baby photos (so worth it)

  • a blanket for the grass

  • a blanket for the floor at baby groups

  • keeping him warm during skin to skin or cuddles

  • a burp cloth

I loved my large muslin swaddle so much, that I had to purchase a few more for when one was in the wash. I then got to use them all again with my next baby.

Here are some ethical companies and small businesses that sell organic muslins made from natural, non-toxic materials.
